I'm finishing up another chapter of "The Harvesters" and I could use some input. I'm trying to come up with a clever name and sales pitch that would apply to the ear pods that the aliens have been affixing to peoples ears to control them. In the story, I describe the pods as being metallic silver & slightly larger than bottled water tops, with these little rubbery nipples on the inside that extend into the ear canals when activated, (the substance inside being a living organism that eventually attaches itself to the brain).

Now my idea is that these pods would now be marketed on television to be sold to the masses (or possibly even given away on a trial-run basis, allowing enough time for the pods to take effect). What I need is a name with an underlying meaning and possibly a catchy slogan. For example: there was the Sony "Walkman" - you could literally walk down the street listening to your tunes on a portable cassette player through ear phones. The "Thigh Master" was used to tone thighs. Anybody out there with an advertising & marketing background, or just a slightly twisted imagination like mine?

What do they do? I mean ostensibly, why is the innocent consumer purchasing them? Are they marketed just as bluetooth headphones?

Yes, the same idea as a bluetooth. Whenever townsfolk are abducted, they are either stored away (the pretty ones) or they are equipped with the ear pods before being released back into society. The pods act as controllers and this is how the aliens communicate with them. In the past I have referred to them as "receivers" but I'm looking for something catchy and marketable. The underlying idea is that if the invaders can "sell" the technology then they can gain control over a larger number of people. There was a Doctor Who episode where everyone is wearing them. In one scene a crowded street suddenly "Freezes up" like a flash-mob when they are receiving new information. Someone tells a joke on the incoming line and suddenly everyone makes a fake-sounding laugh and unfreezes. I'm thinking it could be sold as a communication device as well as for entertainment purposes...

I don't want to go into too much detail, but I'm writing a scene where a daughter wants a set of pods because they are "hot". Her mother is arguing with her at the breakfast table saying that they are "just another high-tech toy" and she refuses to spend any more money on what will be just another passing fad. I want to work a TV commercial into the scene that's playing in the background or possibly even a passing billboard later on. These commercials might also "build-up" the paranoia between the controlled and those that still have their own free will. Just kinda coming up empty on clever ideas for the name right now!

I hadn't even thought of it as a stress reliever, but that's not bad. And as for the earlier passion pitch: with all of these commercials for Cialis/Levitra and Trojan rubbers for couples that bombard me every ten minutes on the TV, it certainly sounds credible...

I don't want this turning into a "Doctor Who" thread, but the scene in the episode I was refering to above was in "Rise of the Cybermen, Age of Steel". You can see the frozen people at 15 seconds in. This was a fairly long scene with them walking around and inspecting the entranced people. The scene at night with all of the townsfolk walking zombie-like to the factory to be processed was freaking awesome. Hard to find on youtube because they take them down faster than you can upload them.
